Ulta Beauty’s 21 Days of Beauty

Sunscreen Help from Solvaderm

              Beauty Through The Ages
You have heard the phrase ‘wear sunscreen’ countless times. From your parents telling you to apply at the pool or beach to your doctors telling you to protect your skin as you age, it is no surprise that wearing sunscreen every day is essential to healthy skin. The FDA and every skin care professional in the world recommends that you protect your skin from the effects of the sun each and every day, so we have compiled a list of tips that are important when it comes to sun protection1. If you aren’t sure which products to use to protect your face from the sun, be sure to check out Solvaderm’s line of skin care moisturizers that contain SPF for everyday use.

Avoid Sun Exposure during Peak Hours
You should avoid sun exposure during the sun’s peak hours which is 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. when the sun is at its strongest.

Choose Strong Enough Sunscreen
You want to be sure to choose sunscreen that is SPF 15 or higher but also keeps in mind that anything higher than 50 is not actually clinically proven to be any more effective.

Choose both UVA and UVB Protection
It is important to choose a sunscreen that protects from both UVA and UVB rays. Both are harmful to your skin and while UVA rays are less intense they can penetrate clouds, so sunscreen even on cloudy days is important. UVB rays can cause reddening and burns and both can lead to skin cancer, so it’s important to choose a well-rounded sunscreen.

Protect Children
Be sure to choose the right sunscreen for your family depending on age. Infants and small children should not be exposed to certain ingredients and require sunscreen that has been specifically developed for babies and young skin.

Wear the Right Gear
Wearing certain items can help protect your skin from the sun. The use of hats, sunglasses and certain clothing can add an extra layer of sun protection.

Properly Apply Sunscreen
Sunscreen is incorrectly applied all the time.  It should be applied at least 15 minutes before exposure to the sun and also should bere-applied at least every two hours or so. If you are swimming or sweating, you should reapply more often as the sunscreen will wear off in water and sweat.

Getting a little bit of sun every once in a while is important as it helps the body produce Vitamin D which is critical to strong bones and can help you feel better overall however too much sun exposure is not a good thing, so you want to make sure to protect yourself by choosing the right sunscreen for your skin. Solvaderm has a complete line of products designed to protect the skin on your face from the harmful effects of the sun. Dermaxsol is a daily moisturizing cream that contains a broad spectrum SFP of 30 to help protect your skin from the sun while also keeping it looking its best. Morning Korean Skincare Routine

                      Beauty Temple
Although the 10-Step Korean Skincare Routine has been around for quite some time now, a lot of people still have many questions about it. One of them being: Do I really have to do all 10 steps?

10 steps is definitely a lot but lucky for you the answer is no, you don't have to. Could you imagine taking the time in the morning to throw 10 products onto your face? I don't know about you but I'd rather be sleeping an extra 5 minutes.

It's taken a lot of trial and error to get my morning Korean skincare routine down pact and while it will obviously evolve as new products come out, here's what my routine consists of thus far. I'll be presenting them in the order in which I apply them to my face, and I swear it won't take you very long:

1. KLAIRS GENTLE BLACK DEEP CLEANSING OIL ($23) - I start off my morning skincare routine with an oil-based cleanser. Your skin continues to produce oil while you sleep so this cleanser will help to break it down so you can start off with a truly fresh face.

2. GLOSSIER MILKY JELLY CLEANSER ($18) - Then I follow up with a water-based cleanser that will break down any remaining dirt and grime. This cleanser from Glossier is effective yet gentle so it doesn't irritate your skin. You can read my full review of the product here.

3. SON & PARK BEAUTY WATER ($30) - After I get out the shower I pat my face dry and pour this toner into my hands. I like to pat it onto my face to make sure it absorbs into the skin. This particular toner works to neutralize your skin's pH levels after you've washed it with the oil and water-based cleansers. I have a full review of the product here.

4. MISSHA TIME REVOLUTION FIRST TREATMENT ESSENCE ($49) - Essence is the heart of every Korean skincare routine so you definitely can't skip this in the morning. This essence from Missha works to repair and nourish skin while improving skin elasticity. If you're interested here's my full review of the product.

5. GARNIER SKIN RENEW ANTI-PUFF ROLLER ($9.99) - In the morning I like to focus on decreasing any puffiness that may have accumulated under my eyes as I was sleeping. One of my favorites is this Garnier Anti-Puff Roller because it contains caffeine and has a nice cooling sensation when applied under the eyes.

6. LA ROCHE POSAY ANTHELIOS 60 ULTRA LIGHT SUNSCREEN ($29.99) - No morning skincare routine would be complete without an application of sunscreen. Korean skincare really stresses the importance of sunscreen because it helps to prevent premature wrinkles and signs of aging. This one by La Roche Posay is one of my favorites because it's incredibly light and absorbs into the skin instantly.

Remember, you can continue to cut down these steps even further where you see fit. For example, if you have dry skin then maybe you won't need to start off with an oil-based cleanser. Also, just because the routine is Korean inspired does not mean it has to contain all Korean products. As you can see I mixed in both American and European products into mine. It really comes down to whatever works best for you and your skin!

Search for the Secret of Life and Death

              Beauty Queen Of Leenane
Why can’t we all live forever? It seems a terrible flaw in the fabric of the world—that death haunts us from the moment we are born, injecting a note of tragedy into everything. And yet how could it be otherwise, if reproduction is equally a part of the fabric of space-time?

An image of the endless search for the answer to this paradox is drawn by Jack Kirby in his comic book The New Gods. Metron is a character from New Genesis. His chair carries him wherever he wishes, and yet we can take him as a symbol of a search that never finds what it is seeking, in an ultimate sense. Though not the hero of the stories (very much a peripheral character, like Lightray) he offers the image of a powerful archetype.

Why life and death?

Everybody comes to death eventually, either by disease or by “old age.” There’s a part of me, suffering from prostate cancer, that wants simply to get it over with. In that case the simplest outcome is to stay with the illness I have and see it through. Alternatively, I could recover, somehow, and in this way buy a few more weeks or months or years of life.

And yet, and yet…. For God wants us to have a certain treasure, a wealth, that we can have only in a certain way—and that cannot come to us by taking something from him prematurely. “I can find that divine wealth that God, by his adoption of us, intends us to inherit. Wherever I turn, I shall find him. Whether life has smooth ways or rough, whether it hangs my path with lights or hides me in gloom, I am the heir to all that earth or sea or sky can boast of as their possession.”

The “rich things of God,” are the things he wishes us to claim from him. For “I have a claim upon even more. I have a claim upon the very source of this wealth, that is, upon God himself, for he is the sole source of all his greatness.” There is no doubt about it. “I have a right to God himself. He is mine. He who holds in the hollow of his hands the fabric of the world, who with his divine power supports, and with his Providence directs, the intricate pattern of the world, has himself by creation entered deeply into the world; at the heart of everything he lies hidden.”

The author of this remarkable passage (Magnificat, May 2014, pp. 198-9) is the English Dominican writer, Father Bede Jarrett, O.P. He adds that God “comes in a fuller, richer way into the depths of the soul” by grace. It is by virtue of this grace that “here in me are Father, and Son, and Spirit.” And we must conclude that God wishes to give himself to us completely, and in no other way than this. God gives himself to the whole world through us, by giving himself through life and death.

God entered deeply into the world—so deeply that we can call it a merging, a uniting of his own nature with the world itself. It is no illusion, but a real uniting. We can participate by joining in the rhythm of life and death. God hides himself deeply within the world, not as an extension of life, such as an experience or two, but as the totality of being. At first it all seems inaccessible and impossible. The Cross seems impossible, incredible. It seems foolish, crazy. But we must join fully, deeply, truly. And we must start as soon as possible.
